How to Create an Interactive Quiz With Scoring in PowerPoint 365 for Mac
PowerPoint 365 for Mac is a powerful presentation tool that can also be used to create interactive quizzes with scoring. In this tutorial, we will show you how to create a simple multiple-choice quiz with four options and a score counter that updates after each question. You can use this technique to create quizzes for any topic or purpose.
To create an interactive quiz with scoring in PowerPoint 365 for Mac, you will need to use the following features:
Slide layouts: to design the quiz layout and format the text and images.
Shapes: to create the buttons and the score counter.
Action buttons: to add hyperlinks and animations to the buttons.
Slide master: to edit the slide background and add the score counter to all slides.
Slide show: to test and run the quiz.
Let's get started!
Step 1: Create the Quiz Layout
The first step is to create the quiz layout using slide layouts. Slide layouts are predefined arrangements of placeholders for text, images, charts, etc. that you can apply to any slide. You can choose from a variety of slide layouts or create your own custom layout.
For this tutorial, we will use the Title and Content layout for the first slide, which will be the introduction slide, and the Blank layout for the rest of the slides, which will be the question slides. To apply a slide layout, follow these steps:
Select the slide that you want to apply a layout to.
On the Home tab, in the Slides group, click Layout.
Select the layout that you want from the drop-down menu.
You can also right-click on a slide thumbnail in the left pane and select Layout from the context menu.
After applying the slide layouts, you can edit the placeholders to add your quiz title, instructions, questions, and options. You can also insert images or other objects if you want. For example, here is how our introduction slide looks like:
Step 2: Create the Buttons and the Score Counter
The next step is to create the buttons and the score counter using shapes. Shapes are ready-made objects that you can insert and customize on your slides. You can choose from a variety of shapes such as rectangles, circles, arrows, stars, etc. To insert a shape, follow these steps:
On the Home tab, in the Drawing group, click Shapes.
Select the shape that you want from the drop-down menu.
Click and drag on the slide to draw the shape.
You can also insert shapes from the Insert tab or from the Format tab when a shape is selected.
For this tutorial, we will use rounded rectangles for the buttons and a simple rectangle for the score counter. We will also change their fill color, outline color, and text color to make them more attractive. To format a shape, follow these steps:
Select the shape that you want to format.
On the Format tab, in the Shape Styles group, click Shape Fill and select a color from the drop-down menu.
On the Format tab, in the Shape Styles group, click Shape Outline and select a color from the drop-down menu.
On the Format tab, in the WordArt Styles group, click Text Fill and select a color from the drop-down menu.
You can also use other formatting options such as gradients, shadows, effects, etc. to enhance your shapes.
After inserting and formatting the shapes, you can edit their text to add your button labels and score value. You can also resize and position them on your slides as you like. For example, here is how our first question slide looks like:
