Randy has Stan drive him to the church where the statue is, and after cutting in line, arguing that his \"disease\" is worse than that of others, he is drenched in the holy blood. He jumps up and declares that he will not drink any more, and abstains from alcohol for five days.
Pope Benedict XVI comes to investigate, and discovers that the blood is not actually coming from the statue's anus, but from its vagina. Since \"chicks bleed out their vaginas all the time\", this is no miracle. Randy, disappointed, realizes that God did not \"heal\" him. At first he again declares himself powerless, and most of the other recovering alcoholics agree and rush to the bar. But Stan follows Randy and convinces him that if God did not help him, then he must have managed to stop by himself.
The bleeding statue idea came from Anne Garefino, a producer on the show, and was inspired by the real life phenomenon of \"weeping statues\", unusual occurrences where statues would unexplainably \"bleed\" some sort of liquid via supernatural means, usually from the eyes.[citation needed] The crew were discussing the idea of having this happen in an episode but felt it needed to be something more outlandish than the eyes. Garefino then came up with the idea of having the statue \"shit blood all over the pope's face\". Parker and Stone loved the twist, even if it meant the episode would likely draw far more controversy than normal.[1]
In February 2006, leaders from the New Zealand Catholic Bishops' Conference, the Council of Christians and Muslims, and other religious groups together lobbied media conglomerate CanWest to stop a planned airing of the episode in New Zealand on the music channel C4. The network rejected the plea and said the episode would air as planned.[7][8] Leading Catholic bishops then called for a boycott of C4 and its sister network TV3. CanWest again resisted and aired the episode sooner than planned to take advantage of the media attention. New Zealand's Prime Minister Helen Clark issued a statement saying the episode sounded \"revolting\", but that the network was free to air it. One advertiser withdrew their ads from CanWest's networks. Catholic group Family Life International set up a website for boycotting CanWest's other advertisers.[9][10] Another company named C4 Productions, which has no links to the C4 music channel, applied for a court order on the eve of the airing to stop the episode, citing damage to its business because it thought people would link it to the channel. The judge ruled against the order.[11] C4 aired the episode on February 22, 2006 and drew 210,000 viewers, six times South Park's normal audience for the channel.[12] After receiving 102 formal complaints from viewers, the network issued a statement a month later saying \"C4 acknowledges the strength of feeling in relation to the programme, and we sincerely apologize for any offence taken.\"[13]
Clark goes back to the bookstore where Vala works and finds Zod there. Zod has taken over the situation and makes sure that neither the police nor the owner of the store knows what is going on so Clark could go back to saving the humans. Clark is there to help find Vala, but Zod doesn't want his help. He blames Clark for Vala's abduction as well as two other Kandorians, and informs him that whoever kidnapped them always left the Kandorians' family crest behind. Someone is hunting the Kandorians and they can't protect themselves because the solar tower was destroyed and they have no powers. Zod tries to punch Clark, but Clark easily stops him. While everyone believes the tower's destruction was an accident, Zod and Clark both know that Clark destroyed it. Clark knows it would be better for everyone, but Zod is adamant. Clark sees that Zod isn't going to tell the Kandorians because he doesn't know who or how many of them have turned against him and now that the tower is gone, Zod is weaker than ever. Zod tells Clark to think what he wants, but without their powers, the Kandorians' blood is on Clark's hands.
Chisholm tries to cut open Zod when Clark bursts in and shoves him across the room. Chisholm accidentally electrocutes himself to death. Clark tries to save Zod from his gunshot wound, but he dies, so Clark grabs some kryptonite and cuts his hand and puts his blood on Zod's wound.
Back at the Daily Planet, Lois is finishing talking on the phone about a blood sample she wants analyzed when Clark shows up. They both reflect that they have secrets. When Clark goes up onto the roof to meet Zod, Lois gets a text from \"The Wall\" and she realizes the blood sample is suddenly missing; in its place is a white pawn chess piece.
Up on the roof, Zod asks Clark how he knew his blood would save him and Clark replies that he didn't know. Zod winces, apparently in pain from his \"wound\", and says that he may be healed but he's not made of steel. But when Clark leaves, Zod's face changes, his 'pain' disappears and he stands up tall and jumps off the roof, flying up into the sky.
A photographer is taking pictures of Alex, who doesn't know how to behave in front of the cameras. Cahill now wants to try a few where he's actually smiling. Alex says he doesn't even want to be hospital's mascot. Brand ambassador, she corrects him, and he hasn't even been appointed yet. He's just a very good contender because he's handsome and good with kids. It's what the buyers want. Alex says he's out of here and leaves. Alana reminds him he's got some public relations rep following him around tomorrow, and she asks him to be civil.
Stephanie is in the OR with Brian and the two PR reps, explaining the procedure to them. The reps wonder when the attendings will arrive. Only seconds later, Alex and Jackson walk in. Alex asks Jo to direct the reps to the gallery, from where they're allowed to watch. Stephanie tells Jackson there's a little bit of blood on his left shoulder, which he covers up as they enter the scrub room. Alex goes to talk to Brian, who's about to be put under.
Cahill finishes her speech about the hernia clinic and answers a few questions the buyers have. She then notices some fresh blood on the floor, and realizes something's amiss. She asks Derek to take over and walks out.
Dean unexpectedly loses his memory and it's up to Sam to figure out if he wants to leave him that way or go back to their failing relationship. On top of working cases, fighting angels, demons, and losing his brother, Sam doesn't expect to fall in love too. (Set after Season 9x14)
After all the blood loss in Captives, Sam needs to get a transfusion. Unfortunately, something about the demonic blood in his veins doesn't react well with the addition, and his body starts to shut down. In the face of imminent death, his only concern is making sure that Dean doesn't do anything against his will.
When colleague and friend Eric Delko is critically injured in the line of duty, Ryan and Calleigh Duquesne go to the hospital to give him blood, though they learn that it is too late for transfusions due to the sheer amount of blood loss. Ryan and the others then take turns at his bedside before going out to catch the perpetrators. Wolfe becomes angry and almost resorts to near-violence when they discover Eric's shooter, but manages to pull himself together (\"Man Down\").
Ryan is fired from the department after lying to Horatio regarding his relationship to a man to whom he owed $10,000 in poker debts.Yelina Salas, private investigator and former MDPD homicide detective, observes Ryan meeting the man in a secluded area to pay back the money. She brings her video evidence to Horatio, who confronts Ryan. At the end of the episode, Internal Affairs Sergeant Rick Stetler informs Ryan that he has been fired and orders him to leave the building (\"Burned\").
In \"Wolfe in Sheep's Clothing\", Wolfe refuses to help the Russians with whatever they are planning. After Wolfe repeatedly told them he will never work for them, the man torturing him yanks a tooth out as punishment. Wolfe finally gave up after his torturer warns him that his men have Billy and will do the same thing they did to Wolfe. The deal was to clear the Russians from a murder/robbery by destroying the evidence and if he doesn't succeed, Billy will be killed. When Wolfe was in his bathroom after the torture he cleans himself up and cuts a piece of his shirt he wore of the kidnapping with no blood on it and puts it in his kit. Upon going to the crime scene, he scoops up a 9MM bullet casing, that ended up being a critical piece of evidence in the case. He called Mark Gantry to try to warn him about Billy but Mark never picks up. Soon Ryan tells Horatio what's going on after Horatio discovers that Ryan had taken over Mark's debt. Ryan also touches the security guard's jacket with his bare hands in the lab, something which surprises Calleigh, who has always known him as being meticulous to a fault. Horatio manages to find Billy when he double-backs and re-interrogates a person of interest in the robber/murder. At the end, Horatio told Wolfe that the Russians underestimated him at the same time Wolfe realized that not only the Russian Mob is watching the team, but are trying to break them up.
Ryan is attracted to fellow CSI Natalia Boa Vista. The two dated briefly (\"Dead Air\"), but ultimately decided to keep their relationship professional. Boa Vista was obviously still interested in a jealous Eric Delko, who shuns their relationship in favor of Calleigh Duquesne. In spite of this, Natalia has been shown to be very protective of Wolfe. Recently, however, Ryan has shown mild concern over Natalia's hearing loss, going as far to force her to see a doctor. Actress Eva LaRue has said that she believes Natalia will end up falling in love with Ryan (Jonathan Togo) because of his devotion to her throughout her disability. Their relationship has been shaky throughout Natalia's mole status, Ryan's need to display seniority, his loss of job and eventual return, and her relationship with Delko.
In the seventh season, he appears to know about Calleigh and Eric's relationship (\"Flight Risk\"), joking to Natalia in the plane's \"love nest\" that they would like that on a plane, with a shooting range. There is also a strong fan-base between Calleigh and Ryan, and the producers said it had been a concern that Eric/Calleigh would not have been welcomed warmly. 59ce067264
