For this reason, we will first look at the names that can be given to each type of solid shape. Prisms and pyramids are the types of 3D shapes having 6 faces and 3 vertices. What many people call by the same name, a cube and a pyramid are quite different in shape.
So, if a pyramid has 6 faces then it is a 6-faced polyhedral solid. With polyhedral meaning a solid that has 6 faces. So the faces are planes. And the planes are in contact with each other. So it has 6 sides.
Also, like any other solid, a 3D solid is bounded. So there is some sort of outer boundaries. So, as we know a pyramid has 3 vertices and 6 faces. So let us say we have 3 vertices and 6 faces. In thiscase these 3 vertices and 6 faces are arranged in some particular order in 3-space. Now if these 3 vertices and 6 faces together form complete a solid, then the solid is a pyramid. So we call a solid pyramid.
Notice that a polyhedral solid whose faces are equilateral triangles is not a pyramid. And a cone is not a prism. Also a sphere is not a pyramid. Solid shapes are classified into different categories. The type of a solid shape determines the shape of the cross section of a solid. d2c66b5586
